Kingston, Jamaica. August 25th, 2024. The Trust for the Americas’ local partner for its Innovation Lab in Jamaica, the Institute of Law & Economics (ILE), recently hosted its Residential Pitch Tank Finals, marking a significant milestone in fostering entrepreneurial innovation in Jamaica. This event brought together a diverse group of aspiring entrepreneurs, primarily from the JET Project, with additional participation from the AIDS Health Foundation (AHF) Summer Internship Program. Out of 75 initial invitees, 18 dedicated participants engaged in weekly Zoom sessions that began in June. These sessions, led by Ms. Shauna Todd, Project Coordinator from ILE, covered essential topics designed to equip participants with the tools needed for entrepreneurial success. Over five weeks, participants delved into subjects such as: Despite challenges, including delays caused by Hurricane Beryl that extended the program into August, the commitment to innovation remained unwavering. On August 24th, the shortlisted participants gathered at the Eltham Training Centre in St. Ann for an intensive Boot Camp. This session focused on refining their pitches and preparing for the finals. Following a day of preparation, the participants retreated to Mystic Ridge Resort for further practice and final touches on their presentations. The Pitch Tank Finals took place on August 25th at the Eltham Training Centre, where 14 participants from across the island presented their business ideas. The event was a hybrid affair, with some participants pitching in person and others joining virtually via Zoom. A distinguished panel of judges, including Mr. Dwayne Gutzmer, CEO of the Institute of Law & Economics, Mrs. Regina Owen-Morrison, Project Coordinator for the local Trust for the Americas team, and Ms. Racheal Callaghan, PR Specialist for The Trust, provided insightful feedback. The judges evaluated pitches based on criteria such as: The event culminated in the announcement of the winners, with 13 out of 14 businesses receiving seed funding to support the development of their ventures. En una región marcada por desafíos significativos tanto en el ámbito educativo como en la gestión de recursos hídricos, surge una oportunidad invaluable para los jóvenes de Ciudad Juárez y El Paso. El proyecto Skills for Sustainability (S4S) / Jale por el Agua, una iniciativa de The Trust for the Americas, implementada por Jóvenes Constructores de la Comunidad AC con el apoyo del Banco de Desarrollo de América del Norte (NADBank), Microsoft, Water House Group y otras entidades del sector privado, ha lanzado su convocatoria para la 3ª cohorte de capacitación de operadores de agua en Ciudad Juárez.  El proyecto busca empoderar a hombres y mujeres, dotándolos de competencias para prosperar en la industria de la gestión del agua, esencial para el desarrollo sostenible, especialmente en regiones con escasez de agua. Según las Naciones Unidas, para 2025, la mitad de la población mundial vivirá en áreas con estrés hídrico. Por lo tanto, los profesionales con experiencia en el sector del agua son fundamentales para garantizar el acceso a agua limpia y gestionar las aguas residuales de manera eficiente, influyendo directamente en la salud pública y la sostenibilidad ambiental.  La colaboración binacional en la gestión del agua es crucial debido a la interdependencia de los recursos hídricos, el proyecto S4S-Jale por el Agua se enmarca en este contexto complejo, ofreciendo a los jóvenes la oportunidad de ser parte de la solución. Entre sus objetivos se encuentran:  Para expandir su impacto, el proyecto S4S-Jale por el Agua ha abierto su convocatoria para la 3ª generación de participantes. Jamaica’s future became brighter in this opportunity as 501 young Jamaicans celebrated their graduation from JET.  The graduation ceremony, held at the University College of the Caribbean (UCC) Campus, was a vibrant affair attended by proud family members, community stakeholders, and distinguished guests. En este evento, un grupo de jóvenes presentó sus proyectos ante un jurado, compitiendo por la oportunidad de ganar fondos semilla para fortalecer e impulsar sus emprendimientos.  Los DIA Lab RD tienen como objetivo proporcionar a los jóvenes acceso a tecnología, formación en currículos de innovación y emprendimiento, y espacios de mentoría. Esto les ayuda a desarrollar las habilidades necesarias para el mercado laboral y la creación de sus propios negocios. Los jóvenes participantes, que desarrollaron sus propuestas de emprendimiento durante semanas de capacitación y práctica, compitieron en grupo o de manera individual. Los jueces evaluaron exhaustivamente los planes de negocios y el potencial de los proyectos presentados, seleccionando a los equipos ganadores.  “Los DIA Labs RD han demostrado ser una plataforma invaluable para que los jóvenes puedan transformar sus ideas en realidades que beneficien a sus comunidades y a sí mismos. San Antonio de Guerra, República Dominicana – 28 de junio de 2024 – The Trust for the Americas, entidad afiliada a la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), en colaboración con la Fundación AES Dominicana, ha culminado con gran éxito las dos semanas de capacitaciones presenciales en el municipio de San Antonio de Guerra. Estas sesiones son parte de un ambicioso programa de formación que se realizará en junio, julio y agosto, dentro del proyecto Potenciando el Emprendimiento Innovador. Esta primera fase presencial se diseñó para fortalecer los emprendimientos existentes y fomentar nuevas ideas de negocio en la comunidad local.  Desde el lunes 17 de junio, cerca de 80 emprendedoras han participado activamente en estas formaciones. Cabe destacar que el 95 % de las asistentes son mujeres, subrayando así el firme compromiso del proyecto con el empoderamiento femenino en el ámbito empresarial, promoviendo la igualdad de oportunidades y el liderazgo femenino en los negocios.  En estas dos semanas, las participantes se han formado en áreas fundamentales para el desarrollo y éxito empresarial en el entorno competitivo actual. Entre los temas abordados se encuentran: el modelo de negocio Canvas, el uso estratégico de redes sociales para el emprendimiento, inteligencia artificial y marketing digital, estrategias de comunicación y ventas, y manejo de finanzas. Estas competencias son esenciales para el crecimiento sostenido y el fortalecimiento de sus proyectos.  Con la conclusión de las sesiones presenciales, las participantes ahora entrarán a la fase virtual de esta iniciativa donde podrán acceder a sesiones de mentoría personalizadas. Estas sesiones están diseñadas para profundizar en los contenidos y conocimientos adquiridos, asegurando una aplicación efectiva de las estrategias aprendidas y garantizando así el éxito y sostenibilidad de sus negocios.  Finalmente, en agosto, se llevará a cabo una Feria de Emprendimiento donde las emprendedoras podrán exhibir sus productos o servicios. Therefore, the JET Project prioritizes employability and upskilling strategies to build a resilient labor market. Building upon the success of the inaugural cohort, the JET Project has witnessed an extraordinary increase in graduates, with 118 young Jamaicans ready to shape the future of the labor market.   At her address, Linda Eddleman, CEO of The Trust for the Americas, expressed her elation at the exponential growth of the JET Project, stating, “The achievements of our JET Project graduates are a beacon of potential and resilience. Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, February 28, 2024. In June 2021, representatives from The Trust for the Americas, the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI), and the Citi Foundation opened the DIA Youth Innovation Lab in Trinidad and Tobago (DIA Lab TT) with one specific mission: to sow the seeds of innovation and opportunity in the hearts of young entrepreneurs and cultivate a generation of disruptors, innovators, and changemakers, armed with nothing but their ideas and a burning passion to make a difference. Fast forward to today, the DIA Lab TT has evolved into more than just a hub for technological training, mentorship, and access to advanced, state-of-the-art equipment. It’s a catalyst for young entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life, supported by seed funding provided by the Pitch Tank Competitions. This transformation was evident on February 28, as nine promising individuals, selected for their creativity and determination, gathered at CARIRI’s Centre for Enterprise Development. There, amidst palpable excitement, they presented their innovative business concepts to a panel of esteemed judges. The diverse range of ventures, from eco-friendly skincare to cutting-edge agricultural technology, captivated the audience and impressed the judges. Following a thorough evaluation, six exceptional entrepreneurs emerged victorious, securing a total of USD 6,250 in seed funding: But the Pitch Tank Competition wasn’t just about the winners; it celebrated innovation and determination. All participants seized the opportunity to showcase their ideas, network with industry leaders, and gain invaluable feedback and mentorship. Ciudad de México (15 de febrero de 2024) – Dada la importancia que gana cada vez más la tecnología en el mercado laboral mexicano y, en general, en todos los aspectos de la vida, tres gigantes se han unido en una alianza estratégica que promete contribuir positivamente al panorama laboral en América Latina. Desde 2023, The Trust for the Americas, Microsoft y EY han forjado esta colaboración, con el objetivo de reducir la desigualdad laboral mediante la implementación del Proyecto POETA DigiSpark en varios países de la región, incluyendo Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, México, Perú, Puerto Rico y Uruguay. En respuesta a la brecha de habilidades digitales, EY ha creado los Future Skills Workshops, una serie de talleres de 90 minutos que se centran en la formación de habilidades para el mercado laboral del futuro, las cuales no siempre se enseñan en las escuelas. Los talleres tienen como objetivo inspirar a los estudiantes a explorar temas como tecnologías emergentes, sostenibilidad ambiental, alfabetización cívica y educación financiera, entre otros, mientras descubren nuevas pasiones y posibles carreras, y desarrollan la mentalidad y las habilidades necesarias para mejorar su empleabilidad en un mundo laboral cambiante. Voluntarios de EY y de Microsoft impartirán el taller “Alfabetización Digital” a los beneficiarios del Centro Laboral Mexicano IAP (Celamex), aliado de The Trust for the Americas. También se llevará a cabo un panel sobre Inteligencia Artificial, junto con expertos de ambas compañías. Se espera la participación de 30 personas, en su mayoría mujeres (60 %), mayores de 20 años, de nivel socioeconómico medio y medio bajo, para brindarles herramientas valiosas y compartir historias de éxito que las inspirará para impactar su vida laboral y personal. Verónica Philippe, Gerente de Proyecto POETA DigiSpark compartió que “Es un gusto y honor formar parte de esta alianza que está transformando el panorama laboral en México y América Latina. Como Gerente de Proyecto en este ambicioso esfuerzo, creo en el poder de la educación en tecnología para fomentar la inclusión laboral. A través del Proyecto POETA DigiSpark y los Future Skills Workshops de EY, se ha logrado capacitar a más de 7.000 personas en todo América Latina, brindándoles habilidades clave para acceder a oportunidades económicas. Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – November 15, 2023 – In line with this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week theme “Entrepreneurs Thrive Here,” the Trust for the Americas in partnership with the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) and with the financial support of the Citi Foundation, hosted a Pitch Tank Competition at the DIA Youth Innovation Lab in Trinidad and Tobago (DIA Lab TT).  Following a week-long DIA Bootcamp designed to equip participants with the skills needed to refine their business ideas and pitch them effectively, 26 talented young entrepreneurs had the opportunity to present their innovative business proposals in the creative sector, agro-processing, technology, and entrepreneurship to a panel of esteemed judges. The judges, comprising Mr. Miguel Andrews, Entrepreneur and Owner of Spiritt Woodcraft and facilitator of the New Technologies module for the Lab; Ms. Kemby Ross-Jones, Founder and Owner of Rent My Tutor; and Mr. Siljan Ramphal, Managing Director of South Market 868, meticulously evaluated each business plan and its potential impact, selecting the 15 most promising teams to receive seed funding.  The winning projects were:  Beyond the valuable seed funding awarded to the winners, the Pitch Tank Competition allowed all participating young entrepreneurs to gain exposure and visibility by presenting their ideas to a potential audience of stakeholders and investors. They also benefited from networking opportunities, insightful feedback and validation from the expert panel of judges, mentorship, and guidance from the DIA Team, and a boost in confidence and motivation as they embarked on their entrepreneurial journeys. Therefore, each Pitch Tank organized by the DIA Program celebrates the youth’s effort and the promise of the remarkable contributions they will make to themselves and their country.  The DIA Youth Innovation Lab is firmly committed to fostering and empowering the next generation of leaders through comprehensive business development training, mentorship, and providing access to advanced, state-of-the-art equipment.
